Watkins (2011: 89) assumed that the derivatives of the root refered to „projecting objects, fragments, and certain related expressive notions and qalities“. He considered the following roots as extended variants of *steu̯-: *(s)teu̯p-, *steu̯b-, *(s)teu̯d-, *steu̯g.
