7. Comments

According to LIV 602, OInd. tuj- belongs to *(s)teu̯g- ‘in heftige Bewegung geraten’ along with Gr. στυγέω ‘hate’, ‘abhor’, ‘make hateful’. However, TOJ may be a root variant to TOD (from *(s)teu̯d-), cf. Low German stŭken, German stauchen ‘to compress’ (EWAia, 1: 650). Cf. also OInd. tóś-, which Gotō (1987: 166ff.) interprets as ‘sich antreiben’, ‘sich drängen’, ‘eilen’ and compares to OInd. tuj- and tud-/tod-.
